10 Ways to Treat Dad this Father’s Day

Fathers Day

Celebrate all things dad with these thoughtful Father’s Day gift ideas.

Bad jokes, socks with sandals and loud, house-shaking sneezes… Father’s Day is on its way (Sunday, September 6th) and we can’t wait to appreciate our dads in all their (embarrassing) glory. Do you find it hard picking the perfect gift for Dad? Ditch the naff presents and opt for something he’ll remember and really enjoy, like one of these 10 Father’s Day treats guaranteed to leave a smile on his dial.

  1. Picnic in the park (or by the lake)

We love a good picnic here at The Lake House, and so do our dads! Gather his favourite lunchtime delights (order one of our delicious picnic hampers for an easy, fuss-free option) and treat Dad to a lavish picnic in the park or by our beautiful lake.

  1. Go fishing

Nothing quite encourages father-daughter/father-son bonding like a day out on the water. Pick Dad’s favourite fishing spot and spend Father’s Day reeling in a bountiful catch. In case the fish don’t bite, it might be wise to organise a backup plan for dinner!

  1. Be a butler for the day

At your every beck and call ever since you were born, you dad has dedicated an uncountable amount of time to making sure you’re happy and well. There’s no time like the present to return the favour, and we know the perfect way to do so… It’s time to play butler. That means doing everything Dad doesn’t want to – washing the car, cleaning the dishes, making dinner and serving it too (don’t forget pouring the wine, either). If you want to go that extra mile, buy Dad a novelty butler bell.

  1. Organise a big kid scavenger hunt

Is your dad a big kid at heart? Then he’ll love going on a scavenger hunt. Choose some of his favourite things/goodies and hide them around the house, around town or at places that mean something special to him. Even if Dad’s a super sleuth, do leave him plenty of clues.

  1. Bake him a cake

When it comes to indulging, nothing beats a homemade sweet treat. If Dad has a thing for sweet things then bake him a cake. There are plenty of recipes to choose from, but why not try our super quick and simple (but delicious) lemonade scones? If baking is a foreign term for you, make things easy with Vinofood, our range of handmade specialty foods. We highly suggest grabbing a block of our decadent Rocky Road, for a chocolate hit your dad won’t be able to resist.

  1. Set up a mini golf course

Is golf Dad’s “thing”? Treat him to an at-home mini golf challenge around the house/in the backyard. Setting up a mini golf course isn’t as hard as you think; it just takes a little bit of creativity. Try using planks of wood, PVC pipes, chairs and empty pots to create an obstacle course around the garden, and be sure to give it a test run.

  1. Send Dad a hamper full of delicious treats and goodies

Who doesn’t like to indulge every once in a while? Give your Dad the perfect reason to, with a lavish gift hamper filled to the brim with yummy things. If you can’t see or be with Dad this Father’s Day, send him a hamper (we think this Just for Him Hamper will hit the spot) to show you still care.

  1. Watch Dad’s favourite movies at your in-home cinema

Is the popcorn and Vinofood Rocky Road handy? It’s time for movie night, and today Dad gets to pick the film. Before he settles in to a night of drama or comedy, help him have a true cinematic experience by transforming your theatre or lounge into a cinema. Block out any external lights, bring in some comfy cushions and blankets and don’t forget any of the movie snacks. If you really want to WOW Pop, hire a projector and set up an outdoor cinema (weather permitting).

  1. Sign Dad up to our Cellar Club

Remind Dad how much you love him every month, by treating him to our year-long Gold Cellar Club subscription. He’ll receive 12 months-worth of our award-winning, cool-climate wine and you’ll get a bargain at the same time (20% off our Postcard and Premium Reserve wines and 10% off selected Museum wines, plus free delivery Australia-wide).

  1. Lunch by the lake

While all these ideas are good, sometimes all Dad’s after is a nice meal somewhere great. Book lunch by the lake this Father’s Day and Dad won’t protest; a delicious feast will leave him full and happy, along with everyone else.
