Top 5 picnic spots in and around Denmark

Top five picnic spot in Denmark

Planning a trip to Denmark? Enjoy the best of Denmark’s natural surrounds by picnicking at our five favourite picnic locations in Denmark

The town of Denmark, along the Amazing South Coast, is home to incredible beaches, towering eucalyptus trees and farm-to-table produce and eateries. So, why not experience the best of both worlds by taking a yummy picnic to one of these locations? You’ll be able to indulge in fresh local food while soaking up the sun in picturesque Denmark. We’ve compiled a list of our five favourite picnic locations in Denmark below.

The Lake House Denmark

We’re less than a 10-minute drive from the Denmark townsite, and we offer takeaway picnic hampers which can be enjoyed by our beautiful lake. Our hampers are made of locally sourced produce from the region, including cheese, crusty bread, cured meats and chutneys from our own Vinofood collection. Pre-order your gourmet picnic hamper online, and once you’ve picked it up, either stay at our winery on a picnic table under the willow tree, or take it away to another spot around Denmark. Perhaps at one of the locations we’ve mentioned below!

William Bay National Park

Within the William Bay National Park are some of the best beaches in Denmark- Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks, Madfish Bay and Waterfall Beach. Once you’ve turned off South Coast Highway into William Bay, it’s easy to access all four of these beaches. While Greens Pool is arguably the most popular beach, if you’re looking for a quieter but equally as breathtaking beach, head to Madfish Bay. There are plenty of spots to park up for a picnic, whether it’s the soft white sand or the granite rocks, and it’s a great place to snorkel and explore. Just bring a beach umbrella, your camera and a towel or picnic rug, and you’re ready to enjoy the entire day basking in the sand and sun.

Berridge Park

Located in the heart of Denmark is Berridge Park, fit with picnic tables, gazebos and lush grass for a picnic by the Denmark River. At one end of the park is a playground, ideal if you’re holidaying with your family, but otherwise there is ample space at the opposite end of the park, as well as plenty of shade. As the park is located in the townsite, you could grab a takeaway coffee or lunch from one of the cafes or bakeries nearby (or a picnic hamper from the Lake House!)

Harewood Forest Walk

For those wanting to truly immerse themselves in nature, the Harewood Forest Walk is a gentle, family-friendly 1.2km return walk through the vibrant karri forest. There are two picnic tables, one at the start and one at the end of the walk, so you can easily enjoy the forest without straying too far. To get there, head along Scotsdale Road, where you’ll come across a small carpark and a sign for the trail. From the carpark, walk across the bridge, and either take a right to find the first picnic table, or wander left and follow the trail through the karri forest for about 600 metres. At the end, you’ll be met with another picnic table, and a quiet spot to admire the Scotsdale Brook. As a bonus, you could visit one of the other beautiful Denmark wineries on Scotsdale Road, we’re in wonderful company in the Great Southern wine region!

Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach is an ideal spot for a picnic, as there are a few grassed areas overlooking the ocean. This family-friendly beach is great for surfing, and you can hire a board down at the water’s edge. During the spring and summer months, the sandbar between the Wilson Inlet and Ocean Beach is usually opened, meaning the inlet is flooded with pristine sea water at high tide, turning it into a blue oasis. This section of the inlet, called the Prawn Rock Channel, is accessible off Ocean Beach Road. Also along the Channel’s bank are a few grassy spots to set up a waterside picnic.

Why not grab a picnic hamper to enjoy in your favourite spot.
