TASTING NOTES

Vineyard: Single vineyard in Frankland River, Great Southern. Soils comprise of iron-stone base gravels and duplex sandy loams.

Vintage: A dry winter led to a wetter spring – rain during flowering possibly the cause of significantly reduced yields across the region. Persistent rain, triggered by tropical cyclone activity to the north, combined with cool temperatures resulting in a very difficult vintage where good management and timely decisions achieved some excellent quality. Overall quality is high with standout varieties being Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Appearance: Dense inky red with a youthful purple hue.

Aroma: Black fruits, spice and cigar with leafy hints of mint.

Palate: Dense, dark fruits with a complex mid-palate of chocolate and velvety tannins leading to a long toasty finish with hints of vibrant red fruits supported by spicy French oak.

Varietals: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Notes: Fruit is harvested, de-stemmed and crushed, then cold soaked for five days to encourage gentle extraction of colour, perfume and flavour. The wine is left on its skins for three weeks post-fermentation to extract further colour and tannins, before being transferred to oak barriques to complete malolactic fermentation.

Maturation: 18 months in French and American oak barriques, 50% being new oak.

Cellaring: to 2034

Alcohol: 14.5% Vol

pH: 3.61

Acidity: 5.8 g/L

Residual Sugar: 0.8 g/L

REVIEWS & RATINGS

94 points: Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

A stylish and expressive cabernet. Has that cool lithe elegance of Frankland River. Already showing considerably complex characters with a smoky black olive and spicy dark chocolate and cool mint. The palate is firm and held tight but a wrap of minerally tannins and oak. There is just a little of that ironstone character you sometimes find from this region. Excellent wine.

A single vineyard wine, this is the team’s prestige offering. Opaque purple in colour, we have spices, florals, cherries, tobacco leaves, beefstock and black fruits. Nicely balanced, the flavours are all kept well in check. The wine is taut and poised, balanced, the flavours are all kept well in check. The wine is taut and poised, fresh and youthful. Very fine tannins, excellent length and good focus. We see more dry herbs emerging on the palate. This is a ten year proposition.
